Rider Switch Protocol
- Whole family goes to the ride entrance together
- Tell the cast member "We'd like Rider Switch"
- Parent A rides with 8yo. Parent B waits with 5yo nearby
- When Parent A finishes, they swap. Parent B rides (can bring 8yo again!) via the Lightning Lane entrance
- No second wait.
Pro tip: While waiting with the 5yo during Rider Switch, hit a nearby no-height-req ride. Don't just stand around.
Rides likely needing Rider Switch (if 5yo is under 44"): Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, Space Mountain, TRON (48"), Guardians (only if under 42").
Packing Checklist
- Portable phone charger
- Comfortable shoes for everyone (10-12 miles/day)
- Ponchos or rain jackets (April showers + Kali River Rapids)
- Sunscreen
- Refillable water bottles (free ice water at any quick service)
- Small backpack or stroller (5yo legs will give out)
- Snacks (park food is $15-20/meal/person)
Community Intel
Price reality: Disney community is in full cost-anxiety mode. An $8,500 trip (before food) for 5 nights hit 183 comments on r/DisneyPlanning. Your 3-day trip at ~$2,300-2,700 (no hotel, no food) is lean but significant.
What's new: Buzz Lightyear reopened April 8 with new blasters and robot character "Buddy" - your kids will be among the first. You're missing Soarin' Across America (May 26) and Grogu on Smugglers Run (May 22) by 5 weeks.
Mid-April is a sweet spot. Post-spring-break, pre-summer. Moderate crowds. Lots of people are skipping 2026 due to closures - that benefits you.
